Ile Souris and Fairyland Snorkel (Pointe au Sel)

4° 44.1′ S · 55° 31.4′ E · approximate

A rocky 14 m islet just inside the reef off Anse Royale, about 500 m southwest of Pointe au Sel; the lagoon in front of Fairyland beach is Mahé's easiest shore snorkel, with angelfish, groupers, wrasse and the odd eagle ray.

Practical

Approximate: placed in the lagoon between Fairyland beach (OpenStreetMap) and Ile Souris. Enter from the sand near the rocks at the end of the beach. Lagoon 1-2 m deep, 2-3 m near the islet. Do not go behind Ile Souris: the current there is often strong (Snorkeling Report via moyenneisland.com). Seaweed washes in June-September; the calmest seas are usually in the April-May and October-November transitions. No lifeguard.
