Aldebaran Wreck Dive

4° 36.0′ S · 55° 25.5′ E · approximate

A 28 m fishing vessel scuttled by the Seychelles Tourism Board on 11 July 2008, sitting upright on sand at 28-40 m and swarming with groupers, silver sweetlips, schooling yellow snappers, fusiliers and batfish; dolphins, giant grouper, guitarsharks and whale sharks visit in season.

Practical

Exact wreck positions are not published by the operators; the coordinate is a derived point in open water about 0.8 km off Beau Vallon bay (checked against the OSM coastline), shared by the Beau Vallon wreck entries, and is NOT the wreck. Big Blue Divers lists it as a 'normal distance' site (the boat ride from Mare Anglaise usually takes no more than 15 minutes) and notes there is often a current; dive-site directories describe a mooring line on the wreck and place it off Beau Vallon/Bel Ombre. 28-40 m makes it a deep, experienced-diver dive (deep or nitrox certification as the operator requires). Recreational scuba in Seychelles must be done with a licensed local dive centre, so book Big Blue Divers, Blue Sea Divers or the Underwater Centre to dive it from their boat rather than from the yacht.
