Beau Vallon Bay

Mahé's biggest, liveliest bay: a 2 km crescent of white sand from Bel Ombre to Mare Anglaise with restaurants, dive centres and the Wednesday night bazaar a dinghy ride away. The classic first or last night out of Eden Island in the southeast trades.
Practical
Anchor off the beach on sand, outside the large yellow buoys that mark the swimming zone (not every charter boat respects them). No moorings and no dinghy dock: expect a surf landing on the beach, with a real shore break even in the southeast trades, so land at the ends of the bay, keep electronics in a dry bag and watch the swimming markers. Soft sand: a CQR did not set well for one cruising family (2007-2009), who dived on the anchor every time. Jet-skis and water-ski boats make it busy, especially at weekends. Fully exposed to the northwest monsoon (about December to April): The Moorings calls it one of the best anchorages on Mahé in the SE monsoon and one to avoid in the NW. Restaurants, shops, ATM, waste disposal ashore. Coordinate from Hacking family log (04°36.5'S 55°25.7'E).
Best for
Overnight with dinner ashore and the Wednesday bazaar, in SE trades
Season
May–Nov (SE trades); exposed and untenable in NW monsoon swell Dec–Apr
