Saturna Vessel Restricted Zone (East Point)
48° 46.8′ N · 123° 3.6′ W · approximate
A seasonal no-go zone for boats off the eastern tip of Saturna Island, created to keep a key Southern Resident killer whale feeding area quiet. It covers the inshore waters around East Point.
Practical
Position is the approximate centre of the zone. Exact limits are in Schedule 2 of the 2026 Interim Order and the Coast Guard NAVWARN. In force June 1 to November 30, 2026: no vessel traffic and no fishing. Exceptions cover direct trips to or from a home or business, travel between Pender and Saturna, access to a mooring buoy inside the zone, and paddle craft in a 20 m strip along shore. Tumbo Channel next door is a voluntary 10-knot zone over the same dates. Stay 1,000 m from Southern Resident killer whales until May 31, 2027 (in-transit boats are exempt). Penalties run up to C$250,000 or C$1 million.
