Wildlife· Saturna· Salish Sea — San Juans, Gulf Islands & Desolation Sound
East Point (Saturna Island)
48° 47.1′ N · 123° 2.7′ W
The windswept eastern tip of Saturna, with a lighthouse and wide views over Boundary Pass. Strong tidal currents attract fish, seals and birds, and killer whales often pass close in.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM cape. Best reached by land from Lyall Harbour (a long ride) or watched from the water at a distance. The waters east of the point are part of the Saturna vessel restricted zone (no traffic or fishing June 1 to November 30, 2026), and Boundary Pass currents can exceed 5 knots with rips off Tumbo Island and East Point. Keep at least 1,000 m from Southern Resident killer whales until May 31, 2027.
Best for
Whale watching from shore, photography
Season
Year-round; orcas most often May-October
