Romblon Harbour Anchorage

12° 35.0′ N · 122° 16.2′ E

A landlocked natural harbour under steep green bluffs and Spanish forts, regarded as one of the safest harbours in the Philippines and the classic Sibuyan Sea refuge for inter-island ships in bad weather.

Practical

Position: where SY Dawnbreaker anchored in January 2016, in the small bay at the inner end of the harbour between the cemetery and the fairground. The harbour opens to the north-west, roughly 400–600 m wide (OSM coastline); entrance marked by minor lights on both sides (OSM seamarks: Romblon J R and J G lights) with Sabang Point lighthouse to the north. Dawnbreaker reported that published guest-mooring coordinates led to no moorings, that harbour lights did not match the charts at night, and that a fallen lighthouse lies on a reef near the harbour: enter in daylight. Depth and holding are not published in our sources; sound in. Ferries and RoRos use the port on the south shore, so keep the fairway clear. Wikipedia notes a sunken galleon and a Japanese wreck off the bay. Ships and bancas shelter here under typhoon signals (e.g. during Typhoon Ramil, October 2025). Walk to market, fuel (Petron and JNBER stations near the waterfront), ATM (PNB), Romblon District Hospital and the forts. Cruiser notes (Soggy Paws compendium): the harbour is very deep with little swinging room, so most yachts take a club mooring - Kalearin (2011) was directed to one at 12°34.813'N 122°15.843'E inside the harbour, and Savannah (2014) reported two club moorings in the south anchorage, south of the white channel marker. Dinghies tie at the town wall with the local boats; trash can be left at the landfill area on the south side of the harbour. The town's one ATM often runs out of cash at weekends - bring pesos. Soggy Paws doubts the harbour is fully typhoon-proof; if one threatens, tuck into the southern corner of the inner harbour and watch other vessels.
