Napaling Reef (Sardine Run)

9° 37.3′ N · 123° 46.4′ E

A reef off Panglao's north-west coast where dense baitballs of sardines swirl just minutes from shore, with jacks and trevally hunting around the edges. It is also a freediving training spot.

Practical

OpenStreetMap dive site 'Napaling Wall Dive'. Reef top at about 8 m with a wall to about 25 m; all levels; mornings usually bring the best baitball activity; sardines are there year-round, with the best visibility Dec-May (philippinedives.com, 2026). Normally done by boat from Alona or as a snorkel from shore; anchoring on the reef is not appropriate, so drop divers or use a mooring if one is offered.

Best for

Snorkelling or diving with a sardine baitball
