Mamburao West Anchorage

13° 13.5′ N · 120° 34.2′ E

The better-sheltered of Mamburao's two anchorages, off the beach where the fishing fleet unloads and locals eat at beachside stalls - the provisioning and fuel stop of north-west Mindoro.

Practical

Position: hackingfamily 13 13.55N 120 34.22E, 30 ft sand, Globe and Smart 4G (visited May 2022). Hackingfamily: the two anchorages are about 1 nm apart, both shoal predictably over sand, no hazards on approach, but reefs SW of town extend out for 5 nm and must be avoided; the west anchorage is more protected; both fine in the NE monsoon but little protection in the SW monsoon. Quieter than town - tricycle/taxi drivers will run you in for lunch. Sail The Philippines: 'a good place to stock up on fuel and supplies', the most significant town in north-west Mindoro. Mamburao airport handles charter flights (Wikipedia). Fuel would be by jerrycan from town stations (no fuel dock documented).

Best for

Fuel, supplies and a calm NE-monsoon night

Season

NE monsoon (Nov-Apr); exposed in SW monsoon
