Mactan Shrine (Lapu-Lapu Monument)

The Liberty Shrine at Punta Engaño marks the approximate site of the 1521 Battle of Mactan, where the datu Lapulapu defeated Magellan: a 6 m bronze of Lapulapu stands near an 1866 obelisk to Magellan.
Practical
Declared a national shrine in 1969 (Republic Act 5695). April 27 is Lapulapu Day; in 2024 about 300 eskrimadores staged the 'Kadaugan sa Mactan' re-enactment here. A short taxi or jeepney ride from the Cebu Yacht Club, near the Punta Engaño pier for Olango boats. Seafood restaurants line the approach road.
