Coral Garden and Giant Clams (Paniquian / San Antonio Island)

13° 30.7′ N · 120° 56.6′ E

The shallow coral garden at the harbour mouth that every island-hopping bangka visits - the premier snorkel spot in Puerto Galera, paired with a giant-clam site and a small underwater cave off San Antonio Island.

Practical

Position: OSM 'Coral Garden' feature off the west side of Paniquian. Too shallow for big boats (tour operators) - go by dinghy at mid to high tide and don't anchor on coral. Island-hopping guide: standard tours include Coral Garden; an extra PHP 600 per person covers San Antonio Island's Underwater Cave, the Giant Clams site and Coral Garden; boat hire PHP 1,800-2,000 for 6-8 people (date unclear - verify locally). PGYC: snorkelling is best in the inner bays and giant clam beds are a highlight; Underwater Asia lists Coral Gardens as an easy, colourful site also popular with snorkellers. Protected area - no touching or taking.
