Puerto Galera Yacht Club Moorings (Muelle Bay)

13° 30.3′ N · 120° 57.0′ E · approximate

The cruisers' hub of the Philippines: about 28 club-maintained visitor moorings at the western end of Muelle Bay, right beside Puerto Galera town, inside one of the region's best natural typhoon shelters. Mangrove-fringed hills wrap the bay on every side, and the club's service boat runs you ashore.

Practical

Position approx: placed in the water about 140 m north of the clubhouse (OSM 13.50352N 120.94920E) at the western end of Muelle Bay as Noonsite describes; verify on arrival. Noonsite (updated March 2024): 28 visitor moorings, considered typhoon-safe and lightning-strike-safe, daily or monthly charges, max 60 ft / 20 tons; fees include a complimentary water taxi and use of club facilities. Moorings are inspected annually and lines replaced as needed, but Noonsite says check the strength of your mooring yourself before relying on it, and one 2023 member comment reported a mooring failure after the club moved a boat to a mooring about 2 km away - inspect your attachment (to the chain, not just the buoy eye). PGYC also services four moorings in Dalaruan Bay twice a day (Noonsite listing). Hail PGYC on VHF 68 when close; the service boat will advise whether a mooring is free; calling ahead is recommended. VHF 68 is normally manned 8am to 8pm daily, though coverage across the passage is patchy. Anchoring is not allowed in Muelle Bay (protected marine environment) except on the fixed moorings. Zero-discharge rules: municipal ordinances mandate zero-tolerance waste disposal; use the club bins behind the clubhouse. Mooring fees not published online - ask the club and verify locally. Enter via the Manila (West) Channel if your mast is tall: unlit power cables (estimated 40 ft clearance) cross the Batangas (North) Channel.
