Turtle Bay Panga Fuel Delivery

27° 41.2′ N · 114° 53.6′ W · approximate

Turtle Bay's tall old fuel pier and fuel panga - for decades the only non-commercial diesel between Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate (near the north-east shore pier described by The Log). History: run for years by Enrique Soto ('Enrique fuel service' on VHF 16); after his disappearance the pier closed in early 2024, then reopened in April 2024 under his sister Maria Ignacia Gerrardo Castro - cash only, call 'Ernesto' on VHF 16 on entering the bay (The Log, May 2024). Order your quantity by radio, then either take fuel from the panga alongside at anchor or Med-moor stern-to off the end of the pier (about 15 ft high at mid-low tide - use a monkey fist to get your longest lines up). Prices are per liter in pesos and the highest in Baja; complaints about over-measured deliveries are common - watch the meter and know your tank size. Backup: jerry-jug diesel and gasoline from the Pemex station about 3/4 mile inland, or Pemex fuel at Bahía Asunción, 50 nm south. Ensenada-Turtle Bay is 280-315 nm and Turtle Bay-Cabo San Lucas about 410-420 nm, so plan reserves.
