Santa Cruz Huatulco Port Captain
15° 45.3′ N · 96° 7.8′ W
The Capitanía de Puerto at the entrance to Santa Cruz harbor: where boats check in for Huatulco and get their departure papers before crossing the Gulf of Tehuantepec.
Practical
Position is the OpenStreetMap outline for the Capitanía de Puerto. Dinghy into the harbor and use the local dock, but tell security your plans: tourist boats come and go constantly (Practical Sailor, 2025). In 2012 a departing boat's papers were first made out for leaving the marina rather than the country; say clearly whether you are leaving Mexico, and expect an officer to come aboard to check boat and crew. Bring copies of everything. Fees: verify locally.
