Punta Púlpito Anchorage
26° 30.9′ N · 111° 27.0′ W
A 400-ft volcanic monolith visible 30 miles away towers over this big bay south of Bahía San Nicolás — an excellent norther anchorage with superb snorkeling and a scramble to the top of the pulpit.
Practical
Sand at 20-35 ft, excellent holding; room for a dozen boats. Best norther protection in the NW corner, though some swell sneaks round the point and 30+ kn northerlies have funnelled round it for days (Nov 2024 report). From the north, watch strong cross-currents off San Nicolás bay and pinnacle rocks up to 200 m off the SE rock face; underwater rock formations project up to 200 yd from shore. Breeze accelerates near the rock. Rocky shore makes landing tricky — touch-and-go drop-offs, or land at the second beach south and walk ~3/4 mi on a two-track to the trail up the monolith. Natural arch on the NE side passable by dinghy in calm conditions. No services.
Best for
Norther shelter with a summit hike and snorkeling
Season
