Punta Arenas de la Ventana Anchorage
24° 3.7′ N · 109° 50.5′ W · approximate
A south-wind refuge off a dazzling 3-mile white beach just around the lighthouse point from Muertos - seven miles closer to La Paz and the place to go when a southerly chases you out of Muertos.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: about half a mile west of the Punta Arena light (OpenStreetMap 24.0599 N, 109.8327 W), where The Log says to anchor; checked to be in water against OSM coastline. Room for about a dozen boats on the north side of the point. Sheltered from S and SE; exposed to northers, which funnel hard down the Cerralvo channel in winter. The Cerralvo Channel just north can have strong current, wind chop and lots of whales, rays and turtles.
Best for
South-wind shelter on the way to or from La Paz
Season
Use in S winds; avoid in northers
