Isla Cerralvo West-Side Beach Anchorage

24° 15.0′ N · 109° 55.6′ W · approximate

The sandy beaches along the west side of uninhabited Isla Cerralvo (renamed Isla Jacques Cousteau in 2009), facing La Ventana across the Cerralvo Channel - a lee-side stop with clear water and big-game fish all around.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: a water point about 700 m off the west coast at mid-island, checked against OpenStreetMap coastline; no published anchoring pin was found. Wikipedia: 136 km2, peak 640 m, north-south ridge, steep bluffs on the east side and sandy beaches on the west; nature reserve with temporary ejido fish camps. A cruising family anchored off the west side after a failed first attempt into a strong headwind and called it 'not perfectly protected' (2017). These are lee-side roadsteads: usable in settled weather or easterlies, exposed to winter northers funneling down the Cerralvo Channel. Locals still call it Cerralvo. For the south end, see Punta Sur Anchorage (Isla Cerralvo); for the north end, the La Reina light and wreck. Other locally used anchorage names on the island could not be verified from published sources.
