Bahía de los Muertos (Bahía de los Sueños) Anchorage
23° 59.4′ N · 109° 49.7′ W
A sweeping bay south of Punta Arena de la Ventana and the usual jumping-off point for crossings to Mazatlán, Isla Isabel or Banderas Bay - tuck into the north cove for shelter from northers.
Practical
Position: Online Cruising Guide map pin in the NW part of the bay. Officially renamed Bahía de los Sueños. Good holding in sand, 15-30 ft; rocky bottom if you hug the point. Most boats tuck into the NW corner; the little cove at the north end shelters about 40 boats from north winds, but the rest of the bay is wide open to E and S. No fuel, water or public moorings. A restaurant with Wi-Fi in the NW corner (cell service limited); the Corona cantina on the beach serves beer and tacos; the former golf resort's Train Room restaurant at the south end sometimes opens for groups (The Log 2022). Hiking around the peaks above the north headland. Name comes from six train axles sunk as 'dead-man' anchors in 1920 for ore barges of the El Triunfo silver mines; ruins of the stone wharf and warehouse are on the north shore.
