Puerto San Carlos (Mag Bay) Port of Entry and Fuel

24° 47.7′ N · 112° 7.1′ W · approximate

The commercial port town at the north end of Magdalena Bay, 21 nm up a well-marked N-shaped channel from the entrance - a port captain, a Pemex station, groceries and a bus to La Paz and Loreto.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: placed in the channel just west-north-west of the town (Wikipedia/OSM town 24.789 N 112.108 W), where The Log says the port captain wants yachts to anchor north of the commercial piers; come ashore and do the full port clearance. It is a port captain's office for domestic check-in, not a recommended international entry (clear in at Ensenada or Cabo San Lucas). The channel starts near Man of War Cove and serves shrimpers and container ships. Fuel: big yachts have taken high-speed diesel at the commercial piers in a pinch, but The Log does not recommend it for smaller boats; the Ha-Ha guide says a trip up to San Carlos 'will probably result in fuel'. Ashore: three small hotels with restaurants, a Pemex station, several grocery stores and a bus station. Population about 4,700 (2005).
