Beach· Isla Mujeres· Mexico
Playa Garrafón (Garrafón de Castilla Beach)
21° 12.4′ N · 86° 43.1′ W
The small beaches at the south end of Isla Mujeres beside Garrafón reef: the commercial Garrafón Natural Reef Park (snorkel, kayak, zip line, infinity pool) and, next door, the cheaper Garrafón de Castilla beach club, both giving shore access to the island's best snorkeling reef.
Practical
Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap beach-resort outline for Garrafón de Castilla Beach Park; Parque Natural Garrafón is next door at 21.20541, -86.71692 (OSM). Wikivoyage: park entry is expensive and crowded at midday; snorkeling from the adjacent beach cost about MXN 40 (older price - verify locally). The reef is inside the Costa Occidental de Isla Mujeres national park - reef-safe sunscreen, no standing on coral. No dinghy landing facilities; most sailors come by golf cart or taxi.
Best for
Shore snorkeling at the island's south end
