Playa Lancheros (Isla Mujeres)

21° 13.0′ N · 86° 43.7′ W

A palm-shaded, sheltered beach on the lagoon (west) side of Isla Mujeres, famous for its beachfront restaurant grilling tikin xic - fish rubbed in achiote and sour orange and cooked over open flame. Shallow, calm water makes it a family swimming spot and an easy lunch stop from Laguna Makax.

Practical

Coordinate from the Zona Turística listing's map link. On the road to Garrafón (Carretera a Garrafón), south of Laguna Makax and Hacienda Mundaca. The sand is coarser than at Playa Norte; kayaks and SUPs can be rented. Taxi from town was quoted around MXN 75 (older price - verify locally); also reached by golf cart. Hollyeats warns that birds will try to steal food. Restaurant hours and prices not published - verify locally.
