Pichilingue Anchorage

24° 17.0′ N · 110° 19.8′ W

The bay just north of the Pichilingue ferry port is an overlooked gem: superb shelter in a norther, good holding, palapa restaurants on the beach and a bus or taxi to town.

Practical

Position: Online Cruising Guide anchorage map pin; its safe-distance approach waypoint is 24°17.000'N 110°20.750'W. Anchor in 10-20 ft, good holding sand; the bottom has bars and shoals on the south side and deeper water to the north. From the south avoid ferry and ship traffic and clear the heel of Isla San Juan (the port's outer breakwater); from the north clear Isla Gaviota (Lobos), which is deep-to. Protected from N and W; the point plus the outlying island make it far calmer than La Paz harbor in a norther. Ashore: palapa restaurants, swimming beach, a small marina and dive center (Club Cantamar) at the south end, and the road for buses and taxis. The Log notes the north shore is quieter, away from the highway.
