Northern Gulf Summer Heat and Bugs
27° 20.4′ N · 112° 15.8′ W · approximate
Summer in the northern Sea means ferocious heat — 'Santa Roast-alia' — and, in calm anchorages, bees, gnats and jejenes.
Practical
Coordinate is Santa Rosalía. Plan short stops in towns mid-summer to early fall if you lack air-conditioning; breezy anchorages (Alcatraz, El Pescador, Punta Trinidad) are cooler. Bees in the dry season at Puerto Don Juan and Mitlán; jejenes (no-see-ums) when the breeze drops; gnats at El Coyote. Screens on every hatch, and keep fresh water covered to avoid attracting bees.
