Los Gatos Anchorage

25° 18.3′ N · 110° 56.8′ W

A stunning cove of red, wind-carved sandstone and sand beaches on the empty coast between San Evaristo and Agua Verde—one of the most photographed anchorages in the Sea.

Practical

Coordinate is the anchored position (25°18.25'N, 110°56.77'W) logged by the yacht BlueJacket in April 2012—17 ft over sand—inside the charted 'Ensenada Puerto Gato' cove (GeoNames 25.30302, -110.9468); checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline. Hard to pick out from seaward: a Canadian Yachting crew without a working plotter overshot it by two miles and ended up at San Telmo. A Practical Sailor crew hid here from the last norther of the 2025 season, but Club Cruceros warns that none of the anchorages between San Evaristo and Agua Verde is well protected in summer and most are unpleasant in a regular winter northerly. No village, no services; spearfishing and snorkeling on the rocks. Tide pools and wind-sculpted rocks to explore ashore (BlueJacket). Local fishermen sometimes come alongside offering fresh fish (s/v Exit, 2025).
