Isla La Roqueta Anchorage

16° 49.4′ N · 99° 54.2′ W · approximate

A little anchorage in the Boca Chica channel off the beach on Isla La Roqueta, looking across the bay at Acapulco's towers: a party beach by day, swell-free and near-silent at night.

Practical

Approximate: placed off the OSM outline of Playa La Roqueta (16.8222, -99.9052) inside Boca Chica. Roads Less Traveled anchored here in Jan 2012 and called it an ideal, swell-free tropical anchorage once the day boats leave. S/V Some Tuesday anchored about 800 ft off the beach in Feb 2026 and paddled ashore; an umbrella table cost 200 MXN and shrimp lunch for two 1,300 MXN. Expect hundreds of pangas, banana boats and swimmers by day; local yacht races sometimes round the island. Practical Sailor (2025) advises against anchoring anywhere near Acapulco because of Hurricane Otis debris on the bottom; use a trip line and check your anchor.
