El Guano Drift Dive (Isla La Roqueta)

16° 49.4′ N · 99° 55.2′ W · approximate

A drift dive on the exposed west side of Isla La Roqueta, where a steady current brings clearer water than inside the bay plus schooling fish, Moorish idols, barracuda and eagle rays; mantas, whale sharks and humpbacks have been seen.

Practical

Approximate: placed about 150 m off the westernmost point of Isla La Roqueta (OSM outline way 157440090 reaches -99.918 W); the exact site is not published, so dive it with a local operator from Caleta or Caletilla. Dive Magazine gives no depth. Current is the point of the dive: do not dive it from an anchored yacht. Best visibility Nov-Feb (28-30 °C); from March to May the water cools and plankton cuts visibility (Quién, 2017). Watch for Hurricane Otis debris around Acapulco (see 'Hurricane Otis Debris Hazard (Acapulco)').
