Isla del Coral Day Anchorage (Jaltemba Bay)

21° 2.7′ N · 105° 16.2′ W · approximate

A daytime stop off the small south-east beach of Isla del Coral, a 12-hectare island about 3 km off Guayabitos with reefs that draw snorkelers and divers. Anchor off, swim in and have the island to yourself once the tour pangas leave.

Practical

Day stop in calm conditions only. The island is fully exposed to the open Pacific and no published anchoring depth or bottom type was found, so sound your way in and drop in sand well clear of the reef, never on coral. Riviera Nayarit tourism describes the island as one of Nayarit's protected ecological reserves. No anchoring restriction was found published, but ask locally before going ashore. Water-taxi pangas from Guayabitos make the 10–12-minute run all day and land at the beach, so keep clear of their approach. Neighboring Isla Cangrejito lies about 1 km to the SSW. Coordinate is derived from the OpenStreetMap island outline (way 22648701) and the beach on its SE side (way 163916078), about 250 m off the beach, and is not surveyed.
