Ensenada de la Dispensa (Espíritu Santo South End)

24° 24.8′ N · 110° 21.0′ W · approximate

The small west-facing bight at the south-west tip of Espíritu Santo, between Punta Dispensa and Punta Prieta, just south of the closed Bahía San Gabriel - the closest island stop to La Paz and a lunch or settled-weather stop on the way through the San Lorenzo Channel.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: a water point in the middle of the bight between Punta Dispensa (OSM 24.40151 N, 110.34864 W) and the coast to the north, placed from the OpenStreetMap coastline; no published cruising-guide anchor fix or soundings were found, so feel your way in and anchor only on clear sand. The CONANP zoning guide labels the bay 'Ensenada de la Dispensa' and the adjacent 'La Dispensa' as one of 13 traditional hook-and-line fishing polygons, where small-boat anchorage is permitted and large-boat anchorage is not; park rules also prohibit anchoring on rock or coral. Exposed to the west (including afternoon Coromuel and summer westerlies); The Log describes the south end of the island as shoaly, so give Punta Lupona and the reef off the south end a wide berth when rounding into Canal de San Lorenzo. For an overnight, Bahía Bonanza on the east side is the established south-end anchorage. Park bracelet or annual passport required.
