El Cardonal (Isla Partida)

24° 33.1′ N · 110° 23.0′ W

A peaceful bay on Partida's west side, the next bay south of Ensenada Grande, with mangroves, a bird-filled beach, a forest of cardón cacti and a trail across the island.

Practical

Position: Cruisers Academy anchor pin (24°33'07.4"N 110°22'58.5"W). Very protected from N/NW and probably S, but not W. Hazards: big rocks that can hit a dinghy prop - check the tide and land the dinghy in deeper water; possible oyster/aquaculture structures (an old one on the north coast per Baja by Sea). No-see-ums are bad around sunset - their bites itch for weeks. Hike from behind the beach to the east side of the island; mangrove trail around the bay. Inside Archipiélago Espíritu Santo National Park: every person aboard needs the daily CONANP bracelet (225 MXN/person/day on the CONANP page) or an annual Conservation Passport.
