Bahía San Quintín Anchorage
30° 23.1′ N · 115° 56.7′ W · approximate
A vast open anchorage south of the Playa Santa María sandspit, inside the hook of volcano-studded Cabo San Quintín - the only overnight rest stop between Ensenada and Cedros.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: The Log says round Cabo San Quintín (30.359 N 115.986 W, OSM) outside the field of shoal breakers, then head NE 2.5-3.5 nm to the anchorage south of the sandspit; the pin is about 2.5 nm NE of the cape near the GeoNames 'Bahía Santa María' label. Do not enter the shallow inner Bahía San Quintín. Good shelter in prevailing northwesterlies, wide open to SW and S. Roads Less Traveled (2010): boats anchored by the point had a rolly night while those off the long beach slept well. No town at the anchorage, no cell service, no fuel. Hurricane Hilary struck San Quintín in 2023 - do not loiter here in summer.
Best for
Overnight stop in prevailing northwesterlies
Season
Nov-May; exposed to S and SW
