Bahía Marquer (Isla Carmen)

A long white-sand beach on Isla Carmen's south-west side with some of the clearest water in Baja—the main Carmen anchorage for crews coming out of Puerto Escondido.

Practical

Coordinate is the anchored position (25°51.99'N, 111°13.24'W) logged by the yacht BlueJacket in May 2012, about 17 ft over sand; checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline. Live Free 2 Travel Slow anchored at the Breeding/Bansmer guide's waypoint BCS370 in 23 ft over white sand with 5:1 scope and found the anchor well dug in (August 2021). Completely open to the north; probably decent protection from the south and east, and some from the west depending on how far you tuck in behind the point—leave for Puerto Escondido or Ballandra if a norther is forecast. Bees swarm the boat in summer—cover fresh water and be ready to leave. Biting flies reported (Sail Footloose, 2017). Manta rays and dolphins seen, colourful fish along the rocky shore, and a reported 100-ft vertical wall for divers (second-hand, unverified). No cell or Wi-Fi, no services. Isla Carmen is private above the high-tide line. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
