Punta Colorada Anchorage (Isla Carmen)

25° 51.3′ N · 111° 11.3′ W · approximate

A charted anchorage beside the red headland of Punta Colorada on Isla Carmen's south-east coast, with beachcombing (whale bones) and desert hiking ashore.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: about 250 m south of OpenStreetMap's 'Punta Colorado' cape node (25.85737, -111.18941; GeoNames 25.85765, -111.18852), checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline; no published anchor waypoint was found, so sound in and choose the side of the point in the lee. s/v Exit (2025), after nearly three weeks around Carmen, found it gave more protection than the fair-weather cliffside anchorage about five miles north, where east or south wind made things untenable quickly and uncharted rocks lie just awash at high tide. Stay on trails: their hiker took a stick through the toes stepping off-trail. Isla Carmen is privately owned—stay below the high-tide line unless on an open park trail. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
