25° 49.3′ N · 111° 18.7′ W · approximate
Eastern Pacific hurricanes and fast summer squall lines (chubascos) make June-October the risk season in the central Sea; Puerto Escondido's inner harbour is the local hurricane hole.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: Puerto Escondido mooring field. The marina gives mid-August to mid-October as hurricane season with rare direct hits; Loreto.com says August-October; Blue Pacific advises sailors without tropical experience to avoid June-September. Recent history: Newton (September 2016) gusted 77 knots at Loreto with no marina damage; a 2014 chubasco brought 50-knot gusts to Candeleros Bay; Hurricane Polo (landfall as a Category 2, 2026) gave 64-knot gusts in the marina, which held. Summer sea temperatures reach about 85°F in September-November (Latitude 38). If staying, book a slip or mooring early, double pennants and strip canvas.
