Puerto Escondido (Loreto) Marina and Mooring Field

25° 48.9′ N · 111° 18.7′ W

A nearly landlocked natural harbour tucked under the 3,000-ft Cerro Tabor Palmilla peaks of the Sierra de la Giganta that is 'one of the best hurricane holes in the Sea of Cortez'—a modern private marina with slips for yachts to 220 ft plus a large mooring field in the inner bay.

Practical

Coordinate is OpenStreetMap's 'Marina Puerto Escondido' node at the marina office. Entrance 30 m wide, minimum 4.5 m at low tide and 7.5 m at high (Wikipedia); the marina says the channel takes drafts up to 17 ft depending on tide. Published rates (marina website, 2025; appear to be US$, taxes included): slips up to 99 ft $3.42/ft/day, weekly from $9.83/ft (30-39 ft), monthly from $30.69/ft; moorings $1.33/ft/day, $5.25/ft/week, $16.36/ft/month; catamarans pay 2x for slips; electricity $0.46/kWh, water $0.033/L; water taxi to the mooring field $7.70 one way 9 am-5 pm; tender-dock day fee $399.30. A Practical Sailor crew paid about US$45/night for a mooring in 2025. 100 A and 50 A pedestals, potable water, WiFi, showers, self-service laundry ($7.26 per wash or dry), 24-hour security and gated access, rooftop pool and gym, Alamo car rental, La Brisa Pizza & Bar, La Bocana Beach Club, Cordel market. Reservations: reservations@marinapuertoescondido.com or WhatsApp +52-613-141-2361; harbormaster WhatsApp +52-613-105-2890. Mooring lines do fail: in a December 2023 blow a Jeanneau 44DS's pennants parted and she ended on the south breakwater; in Hurricane Polo (2026) gusts hit 64 knots at the end of A dock with one boat briefly on the rocks in the north 'window'. Check your pennants. No fishing in the marina; a licence is required to fish in the park.
