Bahía Los Frailes Anchorage

23° 22.6′ N · 109° 25.4′ W · approximate

A 1.25-mile-wide bay tucked immediately south of the 755 ft Frailes headland - the only anchorage inside Cabo Pulmo National Park and one of just three spots on the 140 nm Los Cabos-La Paz leg with decent shelter from north winds.

Practical

Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap 'Bahía los Frailes' label (approximate); anchor on one of the two narrow sand shelves close under the headland - the bottom drops off quickly. About 45 nm from Cabo San Lucas (Ha-Ha guide). Park rangers in pangas check Conservation Passports and may suggest where to drop the hook. Good in northerlies, open to the south and east. Departure north: avoid Pulmo Shoal (6 ft depths, two wrecks) by heading 3 nm due east from the anchorage, then due north for at least 5 nm before making any westing (The Log). No services; Cabo Pulmo village (restaurants, dive shops, tiny store, no fuel or ATM) is 2.5 miles north.

Best for
