Bahía del Espíritu Santo Anchorage

19° 20.0′ N · 87° 35.1′ W · approximate

An enormous, completely uninhabited bay at the south end of Sian Ka'an - shallow, rich in lobster and so remote that a visiting crew saw nobody at all.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: the bay's reference point on Spanish Wikipedia (19 20'01"N, 87 35'08"W), not the anchorage. A January 2009 crew (Noonsite report) entered on the waypoints in Freya Rauscher's cruising guide and anchored behind the island, just clearing some shallow sandbars with a 5 ft 6 in draft, and found good holding and shelter. Leaving northbound, swells at the bay mouth were big and breaking, which they attributed to about 2 knots of current running close inshore. Spanish Wikipedia: very shallow and hard to navigate; shores entirely unpopulated, inside the Sian Ka'an reserve. No services of any kind. Shoal-draft boats only; enter in good light with a current guide or chart waypoints.

Best for

Wilderness night for shoal-draft boats with good waypoints
