Punta Allen Flats Fishing
19° 47.9′ N · 87° 28.6′ W
Ascensión Bay's endless turtle-grass flats are arguably the world's most consistent permit fishery, with bonefish, tarpon and snook in the mangroves - a classic grand-slam destination.
Practical
Coordinate is Wikivoyage's position for the Fishermen Lodge in Punta Allen, which runs fishing tours. Palometa Club (Punta Allen) 2026 season: 16 January-26 June and 10 July-11 December; March-May most popular; local English-speaking guides from Punta Allen, two guides per boat. Other targets: jacks, triggerfish, barracuda and sharks. Lodges with guides include Fishermen Lodge, Punta Allen Fishing Club and Casa Viejo Chac (Wikivoyage). A cruiser report notes a Mexican fishing permit is needed for any fishing from your own boat (older figure about US$50 - verify locally); check reserve rules before fishing.
