Scotts Head Isthmus
15° 12.9′ N · 61° 22.4′ W
The Caribbean's only tied island: a narrow shingle isthmus joins Scotts Head (Cachacrou) to the mainland, with the calm Caribbean on one side and the Atlantic on the other; climb the headland to the ruins of Fort Cachacrou for the view to Martinique.
Practical
Coordinates: OpenStreetMap 'Cachacrou Fort'. Easy walk from Scotts Head village to the old cannon on top (Nature Island Dive). Small lighthouse (about 5 m) on the peninsula; fort built under Capt George Scott in the 1760s and the French landing point in 1778 (Wikipedia). Scotts Head is the start of Waitukubuli Trail Segment 1 and the Waitukubuli Sea Trail. Snorkel off the isthmus beach in calm conditions (SSMR fee US$2). Restaurants in the village include 3D and Chez Wen (OpenStreetMap).
