L'Abym Wall (Soufriere Bay)
15° 14.1′ N · 61° 22.1′ W · approximate
The 'abyss' - a coral-covered wall plunging some 1,500 ft into the drowned volcanic crater of Soufriere Bay, with seahorses, scorpionfish, soldierfish, copper sweepers and passing tuna, barracuda and the occasional manta.
Practical
Position approximate: Dive Dominica describes L'Abym (La Sourcier) as where the surface cliff meets the sea in the bay, part of the reef system with Dangleben's and Coral Gardens; the point is set about 200 m off the OpenStreetMap shoreline on the north side of the bay west of Soufriere village - not a mooring position. Starts on a sand/rock shelf at about 25 ft; the wall can be dived from 40 ft or deeper; current rarely present; Dive Dominica rates it suitable for all levels (depth discipline essential - no bottom within recreational limits). SSMR rules: operator-led diving only, US$2 user fee per dive, no yacht anchoring or mooring without Fisheries Division permission.
