15° 12.7′ N · 61° 22.1′ W · approximate

The Caribbean's first long-distance footpath: about 115 miles in 14 segments from Scotts Head in the south to the Cabrits in the north, through rainforest, volcanic highlands, river valleys, coastal cliffs and villages - every segment can be walked on its own.

Practical

Coordinate is Scotts Head village (start of Segment 1; OpenStreetMap), approximate for the trailhead. Segment 1 Scotts Head to Soufriere Estate: 7 km, 4-6 hrs; Segment 14 Capuchin to Cabrits: 10.8 km, about 5 hrs - both reachable from yacht anchorages (avirtualdominica). Trail pass required for non-residents (Day US$12, 15-day US$40 - 2013 rates, verify locally); buy near ports of entry or at the Forestry Division. Register before hiking (waitukubulitrail.dm) and check segment closures - the trail unit has announced a partial closure of Segment 2 (Soufriere to Tete Morne). Don't hike alone.
