Prickly Pear Cays Reef

18° 15.7′ N · 63° 10.3′ W · approximate

Reef snorkelling straight off the beach and moorings at Prickly Pear East: parrotfish, schooling goatfish, angelfish and rays over coral, with nesting seabirds on the rocks above. Offshore, the Prickly Pear dive site is an underwater canyon of ledges, caverns and a chimney at 40-70 ft, where nurse sharks rest.

Practical

Coordinate approx: the reef fronting the south-side cove. Marine park: no spearfishing, and no taking coral or shells. The canyon dive must be done with a licensed operator. Best on calm days; swell reduces visibility and makes the reef edges dangerous.
