Prickly Pear Cays Day Moorings
18° 15.7′ N · 63° 10.4′ W · approximate
Moorings in a small reef-protected cove on the south side of Prickly Pear East, about 6 nm NW of Road Bay. The water is startlingly clear, there are two beach restaurants on the sand, and you can explore the reef and the narrow channel between the two cays by dinghy.
Practical
Coordinate approx: south of the west end of Prickly Pear East, derived from cruiser descriptions ('anchor off the south side of East Prickly Pear at the west end of the cay', 'a small cove inside a reef') and the OpenStreetMap restaurant positions. Marine park: use the government moorings (day use 6am-7pm, cruising permit), with anchoring only in designated sand. Space is limited and rocky, with a real grounding risk. Uncomfortable or untenable in northerly swell, and holding is poor where anchoring is tolerated (noforeignland reviews). Overnight is at your own risk and only in settled weather (AXA, SailScanner). The channel between East and West cays is narrow and tricky, so take it by dinghy only. Landing on East Cay needs careful manoeuvring.
