Pillars of Hercules
17° 0.1′ N · 61° 45.7′ W
Wave-sculpted columns of volcanic rock at the eastern side of the English Harbour entrance. You pass them on the way in, and you can walk or snorkel to them from Galleon Beach.
Practical
The National Parks Authority says the Pillars of Hercules, Carpenter's Rock and Snapper Point are remnants of the volcanic past of Antigua's southern hills. Reach them on foot from the south end of Galleon Beach (a short scramble along the shore) or by dinghy in calm conditions. Swell breaks on the rocks; stay well off in any southerly sea. Inside the National Park: no taking of marine life.
Best for
A short walk or paddle from Freeman's Bay with the best view of boats entering the harbour
