Fort Berkeley Trail
17° 0.3′ N · 61° 45.8′ W
A short nature trail from Nelson's Dockyard out along the narrow spit to Fort Berkeley, the oldest fortification in English Harbour (1704), at the very mouth of the harbour.
Practical
Easy walk of a few minutes from the Dockyard (NPA: 'accessible along a short nature trail'). The fort has the colonial-government and Royal Navy halves built in different styles, and an 1807 gunpowder magazine. Visitors go to greet arriving yachts and watch regatta starts. Fort Berkeley Point is also where one of the historic hurricane chains is anchored.
Best for
Watching boats enter English Harbour; regatta spectating
