Oualie Beach Moorings
17° 12.0′ N · 62° 36.8′ W
The bay at Nevis's northwest corner, home of the Oualie Beach Resort, Dive Nevis (Scuba Safaris) and the start of the Cross Channel Swim - a lively beach but a busy, current-swept anchorage.
Practical
NASPA moorings run along the west coast from Oualie Beach to Charlestown; call NASPA on VHF 16 for an assigned mooring within 24 hours of arrival, and no one may use a mooring without NASPA authorisation (naspakn.com). Mooring classes: up to 35 ft, 36-60 ft, 61-90 ft; vessels over 90 ft anchor in a designated area. Rates are published only as an image on NASPA's fee page, with surcharges of +25% weekdays 4:01pm-7:59am and all day Saturday and +50% on Sundays and public holidays. User reports (verify locally): about US$30 a week in 2016; a 2024 Noonsite report of a quoted US$25/night and that NASPA removes the moorings in the off-season (not yet back in Oct 2024), with anchoring prohibited while they are in. Pay at the Port Authority in Charlestown. ActiveCaptain: very popular and often full; fast water taxis run to and from the pier all day and half the night, and the tidal stream can leave you lying across the wind over your chain. In Dec 2019 a boat was repeatedly told to move by a port official when it anchored outside the field - take a NASPA mooring, or anchor well out away from the water-taxi channel. A barely visible sign says dinghies are charged to tie up. Restaurant and bar ashore; the closest real grocery is across in Basseterre or down in Charlestown.
