Nevis Peak

17° 9.0′ N · 62° 34.8′ W

The 3,232 ft cloud-capped volcano that is Nevis - a steep climb through dry forest, rainforest and cloud forest of tree ferns and orchids, with views over both seas when the summit clears.

Practical

Coordinates are the summit (Wikipedia). The route has challenging sections; hikers need to be fit and should go with a qualified guide for safety (Wikipedia). OpenStreetMap maps the 'Nevis Peak Trail' up the western slopes. Start early - the top is in cloud most of the time. Watch for red-necked pigeons, bridled quail-doves and vervet monkeys. Arrange a guide through the Nevis Tourism Authority in Charlestown.
