Bath Hotel & Hot Springs
17° 7.9′ N · 62° 37.5′ W
The three-storey volcanic-stone Bath Hotel, built by enslaved Africans in the 1810s-1820s and regarded as the oldest surviving purpose-built hotel in the Caribbean, above the hot mineral spring locals still bathe in.
Practical
Position from OpenStreetMap; the hot springs (Bath Stream) are just below at 17.13271, -62.6266. Restored in two phases (2022-2026) with US Ambassadors Fund grants and planned as a public heritage site; the Nevis Island Archives and the coming Nevis Maritime Museum are at the nearby Bellevue site (NHCS). The spring feeds Bath Stream, which runs to the sea at Gallows Bay; visitors have bathed here since at least the early 1600s. A 2016 cruiser found the hot pools behind the hotel in a concrete channel in a park-like area - from town walk south on the main road to the Sol station, keep right, and the springs are a few hundred feet up on the left. About 15-20 minutes on foot from the Charlestown dinghy dock.
