Low Bay South Anchorage
17° 37.8′ N · 61° 51.4′ W · approximate
The quieter southern end of the Low Bay strand, off the part of the beach where pink sand is most often reported. You get the same empty shoreline with fewer boats, but it is a longer dinghy ride to anywhere.
Practical
Coordinate approx: placed about 600 m off the southern Low Bay beach (OpenStreetMap beach way 582475959, around N17 37.8) in the same sand shelf as the main Low Bay anchorage; confirm depth on arrival. Cruisers rate the holding good in sand but report considerable swell and a long dinghy ride to shore with no amenities (noforeignland). Approach from the south outside the 9-ft bank (Doyle LBAU07, N17 36.0 W061 53.0) after rounding Palmetto Point (LBAU01, 0.9 nm S of the point). A 2020 cruiser sailed downwind from Palmetto Point on the headsail and found Low Bay quiet, with the pink sand at its south end. The same lagoon rules apply as at Low Bay: no anchoring in the lagoon, no dragging boats across the bar.
Best for
A quieter overnight off the pink end of the 11-mile beach
