Codrington Village Heritage Walk

17° 38.3′ N · 61° 49.7′ W · approximate

A stroll through 300 years of Barbuda history: the 1694 Government House with its horse-mounting block, the salt-impregnated Ginnery, the Old Codrington Wall, the site of the Castle (stormed in the 1745 slave rebellion), and stone chattel houses and wells.

Practical

Coordinate approx: set at the Old Codrington Wall (OpenStreetMap way 394465420); the sites are scattered within a few minutes' walk of each other. Government House is behind the post office in the village centre; it is hurricane-damaged and not open. The Ginnery lost its roof in Irma. Only a well remains at the Castle site. Oney Well has been restored with traditional stonework. Combine with lunch and provisioning after a frigatebird tour.
