Cockleshell & Banana Bay Points Snorkel
17° 13.5′ N · 62° 38.3′ W · approximate
The rocky headlands at either end of Cockleshell and Banana Bays hold schooling fish, with conch in the sandy shallows - an easy swim from the anchorage at the south tip of St Kitts.
Practical
Position is approximate - the rocks at the west end of the bay, offset from the ActiveCaptain anchorage position; work along either headland. Sand entry from the beach or snorkel straight from the boat. Flee Winter singles out Cockleshell and Banana Bays for snorkelling; The Trip Verdict says the water is usually calmer and warmer than the Atlantic side, but warns of fast boats near the central pier - tow a float. The bottom off the beach is largely seagrass with sand patches. Gear rental and showers at Reggae Beach Bar.
