Practical

Coast Pilot: good anchorage in and off Waimea Bay in ordinary weather in 3-20 fathoms, sand; small boats usually shift to Hoanuanu Bay for better protection when the trades are strong; depths of 5-18 ft extend 0.3 mile from shore; a naval anchorage lies off the bay (33 CFR 110.237). Waimea pier, 0.3 mile northwest of the river, is a state recreational fishing pier. The river is navigable only for pulling boats (bar across the mouth). Waimea has a hospital and a Big Save supermarket (Times Supermarket store list). A moderate southwest wind is sometimes felt in Waimea Bay while a strong east wind blows 2 miles offshore.
